White Rocks and Portglenone Bluebell Wood (13th May 2006)
Today we went to the North Coast as it was a lovely sunny day. This is where the best beaches in Northern Ireland are, about an hour's drive from us. We went to our favorite beach, called the White Rocks for its high white cliffs which rise beyond the s
and. It looks right out into the cold north Atlantic. Though the weather was much cooler than it had been recently, with a brisk breeze, we still had a good time, the kids playing in the sand, and Tim and I laying on the beach reading books.
On the way home we stopped off at Portglenone Forest, which is full of bluebells this time of year. A sea of deep blue wound among the beech trees, se
t off by the white trunks and fresh spring green of the trees - the bluebells were at their prime! Sadly we couldn't spend long, as it was already 8:30 and twilight, but we lingered till closing time at 9:00 and Tim took our annual bluebell pictures (many shouts of "Look this way!" "Say cheese!" "Elizabeth, look here!" "Boys, you too!"). It was hard to tear myself away. We were hoping to go back soon and spend more time but so far rainy weather has prevented us.
