"But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

West Wycombe Park (27th July)

West Wycombe Park is a National Trust property located outside High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, in the Chilterns. It was the home of Sir Francis Dashwood who headed-up the infamous Hellfire Club. The interior is very nice and we had an enjoyable time there, but the property isn't much to write home about. The gardens were especially disappointing, although admittedly the lake was empty for some reason.

One interesting aspect of the architecture was the rear, which reminded one of a Southern plantation house. Indeed, the most picturesque parts of the property were the hill opposite the house and the little village beside the estate.

The guides also weren't very nice at all and were some of the snobby ones you occasionally experience at NT properties (e.g. like one at Cliveden, for whom the other guides apologised). However, the great majority of NT guides we find very friendly and helpful.

What was most memorable for us was the ducking we got in a thunderstorm, but we soon dried out in the heat.
