"But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

Oxford (17th and 24th July)

The Dreaming Spires of Oxford

We visited Oxford on the Monday, but the traffic was terrible going in due to work on the A40. Thanks to the workmen we couldn't use the 'park and ride', so we had to go to a town car park, but in God's providence this was best for us.

I had been to Oxford before on a short course related to work and was glad that I could now share it with Mary. She got a kick out of seeing the Eastgate Hotel where I stayed.

On the Lord's Day before, we had worshipped with Pilgrim Tabernacle which I have previosuly mentioned, and we had a delightful congregational lunch in one of the family's flats. We also enjoyed fellowship with Pastor Sherwood and his family who live near Oakhill College. While the boys had fun with their daughter, Deborah, Peter managed to get a splinter on the decking, so he had to be pushed around in the pushchair all day in Oxford (which Elizabeth thought was a good idea!).

That evening, as it was our anniversary, we arranged a babysitter. However, due to traffic, we couldn't go to a restaurant and had to opt for KFC, as we wanted to spend some time walking around the streets of Oxford in the evening. Apart from the beauty of the place, two things struck me about Oxford: all the foreign young people visiting it; and all the exhaust from the never-ending stream of buses, although this is far outweighed by the glory of Oxford! (This is more environmentally friendly? I've never experienced such pollution since London!)

We went another evening to Oxford with the kids as we arrived too late to see Christ Church Meadow the other evening, because it closes at 9 p.m. (most gates close at 8:30 p.m.).

We highly recommend a visit to Oxford. See a photo album of this trip here:
